A Blog by Any Other Name

I'm a fan of The Office. For those of you who were fans back in the day or who have dug into the archives of the Internet, you'll know what the title of this blog references.

Imagine my surprise when, about 2 years ago, one of my students turned to me during a behind the wheel lesson and asked me if I had "ever heard of this show called The Office".

Yes, my Padawan. Yes I have.

I'm sure that John Krasinski thought it was fun visiting the sleepy town of Scranton, PA to film the first scenes of the opening credits and then leave forever. Hardcore fans like myself lived the Scranton dream. From January 2006 to May 2009, I attended The University of Scranton. Yep. That's right...the same school as little Jimmy Halpert. No big deal. What I can tell you, though, is that living there is almost as exciting as working at a paper company.

Regardless of your thoughts about The Office or any of the other myriad shows that followed in its footsteps (Parks and Recreation immediately comes to mind), I'm so grateful that the current generation of high school students has rediscovered this gem if for no other reason than it giving me even more of a chance to connect with our students. The more we are able to connect with our students, the better they are able to learn.

I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to start a brand new venture with my wife, Kristen, and to continue partnering with students and their families to make our communities safer. This isn't about statistics or shaming people who don't make complete stops at stop signs (I know who you are, and I will find you.). It's about all of us working together to do our part, to be more aware of the fact that there are people waiting at home for the people on the road.

I can't wait to meet you, to learn more about you, and to share the awesome driver education experience that is Safe Pass.

Let's hit the road.
