8/25/2020 1 Comment Pomp and CircumstanceI love Tuesdays...almost as much as I love Mondays. (It could also have something to do with my love of Tuesdays with Morrie, a remarkable book I first encountered in high school that would go on to shape so much of my outlook on life, especially in the relationships I attempt to create and nurture with the people around me.) The week has already begun. Fresh challenges have been laid out for us all, and we are getting into the thick of things.
As many of our students return to school in some capacity this week, I can't help but continue to think about the fact that Sunday (only two days ago!) marked the completion of our first round of teen classroom lessons. Although these classes looked quite different than those I have taught in the past, they were still chock full of pertinent information, corny jokes, relatable stories, and students with the drive to succeed. I'm always honored to be a part of the my students' journeys to licensure (and beyond!), but this particular class held special significance as Safe Pass's first, and Kristen and I will never forget it. The end of August here at Safe Pass is full of behind the wheel lessons with teens and adults – all with different stories and reasons for wanting their licenses. (We can't wait to meet you all!) As we continue to lose a few minutes of sunshine each day, we're thinking about what autumn will bring for us. Our next round of teen classroom lessons begins on September 1st. Our annual Labor Day camping trip is on the horizon. We'll be offering two (!) new courses soon. The leaves will begin to change when we aren't looking, and we'll take more trips to the Holden Arboretum to soak in the beauty of all that nature has to offer. Kristen and I will also celebrate our five year wedding anniversary this October! (It's no coincidence that we were married during our favorite season!) Navigating the next few months will undoubtedly keep us all on our toes. It will be important for us to remember that we truly are all in this together. Lean on one another. Take care of yourself and those around you, even in the small ways that often matter the most. Make smart, healthy choices. (Washing hands and mask wearing, anyone?) We're getting to the point where we can recognize the smiles behind the masks more easily, so share one with the people around you and make their day just that much better. Finally, Kristen and I want to recognize all of the educational professionals – teachers, administrators, and staff – who are working tirelessly and, in many cases, testing their health and safety to resume the education our students receive outside of driver education. We can't say enough about our admiration for these individuals, especially as we think on our experiences in residence life and student development. Thank you for all you do to keep our students safe while expanding their minds and hearts. Stay safe, friends, and don't forget to top off that blinker fluid! 😉 -Rob
