Scheduling Lessons
Most often, most of our students with a generally open schedule will have their first behind the wheel lesson within 3-4 weeks of submitting their registration and tuition. This can fluctuate with the time of the year. Seasons with more sun and warmer weather tend to be accompanied by an increase in the number of registrations. If you have questions about scheduling, contact us.
After you register and submit your tuition, a Safe Pass staff member will review and process your registration. We will then send our welcome email, which includes information about next steps and scheduling, to the email addresses included in your registration.
We aim to process all registrations within 2 business days on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please note: we can only guarantee lesson dates and times for students who have submitted complete registrations and tuition.
In our welcome email, you will find a link and password to our availability questionnaire. This questionnaire gives you the opportunity to share any and all times that you are available for behind the wheel lessons. The more open and available your schedule is, the more likely you are to be able to schedule your lessons for earlier dates.
We process all availability questionnaires on a first-come-first served basis. We do not offer same-day or same-week lessons.
Please note: If any of the information you provide is unclear or incomplete, a Safe Pass staff member will reach out for clarification. Please be as thorough as necessary. The need to reach out for clarification could cause a delay in our ability to offer you the earliest possible dates.
Students should expect to hear from their assigned Instructor within 5 business days of submitting their complete availability questionnaires.
When an Instructor reaches out to schedule a student's behind the wheel lessons, they will first text the student at the number that they provided on their availability questionnaire. They will already have the student's availability questionnaire responses, so they will be able to offer dates quickly. They’ll hold those dates for 24 hours from the time they send them to the student. Once that 24 hour period passes, those dates will be released to other students. Once the dates are set, the student will receive appointments through email to confirm and remind the student of the scheduled appointments.
Traditional Teen Driver Education
We typically schedule teen driver education student lessons for weekday afternoons and on Saturdays. (Safe Pass conducts behind the wheel lessons only on select Sundays throughout the year, so the options for this day are extremely limited.) We give priority to teen driver education students who are available between 9:30AM and 3PM on weekdays. Our latest lessons usually conclude no later than 8:30PM.
Our teen driver education programs all include (at minimum) the State-required 8 hours of behind the wheel time, which is separated into 4 two-hour lessons. These lessons are typically scheduled to take place over an approximately 3 week (21 day) time period, with the requirement that all students have 10 hours behind the wheel (on the street) before their first lesson and the expectation that they are practicing behind the wheel between each lesson.
Abbreviated Adult Driver Education
Our Abbreviated Adult Driver Education programs include the State-required 4 hours of behind the wheel time, which is separated into 2 two-hour lessons. These lessons will be scheduled with no less than one business day between them. Lessons for all new students who are 18+ are scheduled with start times between 9:30AM and 1PM for weekdays only from the middle of August to the end of May.
All Other Driving Lessons
All behind the wheel lessons (with the exception of our one-hour Maneuverability Crash Course) are two hours in length and are scheduled with start times between 9:30AM and 1PM for weekdays only. As the student's and Safe Pass's schedule allows, we can schedule up to 2 two-hour lessons per week. Starting and Ending Locations
Traditional Teen Driver Education
If your home address is farther north than Highland Road, father south than Chagrin Boulevard, farther east than S.O.M. Center Road, farther west than Warrensville Center Road OR more than 15 minutes by car (on local streets) from our classroom location, your starting and ending location for behind the wheel lessons will be the Safe Pass classroom (5035 Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst). Otherwise, your starting and ending location will be the address provided on your registration, as long as a safe location can be provided for our driver education vehicle to park at your address. If determined to be safe for the student and the Instructor, we will also offer pick-up and drop-off from high schools within that radius if specifically requested by the student, who must be enrolled at that high school for the request to be honored.
Please note: We are unable to begin and conclude lessons at any schools that border SOM Center Road.
Abbreviated Adult Driver Education
All abbreviated adult behind the wheel lessons begin and end at our classroom location (5035 Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst).

Why Does't Safe Pass Pick Up and Drop Off All Students from Everywhere?
Our first priority is safe driving. It's right there in our name. And we strive to impart safe driving skills to all of our students, which, for us, means intentional driving and skill building on predetermined routes (that have been approved by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and which meet their driver education curriculum objectives) rather than driving on random streets where our Instructors are unable to predict road conditions, traffic, and other challenges that could make the lesson either unsafe or a waste of time. We have a limited amount of time with our students, and we work to make the most of it.
